Countries in the Persian Gulf region, faced with depleting ammunition supplies, have asked South Korean defense companies to accelerate the deliveries of air defense systems, the Wall Street Journal reported. This changes the current structure of arms purchases of these countries, which is entirely based on the USA.

As “WSJ” reported on Sunday, citing its sources, Saudi Arabia asked Hanwha and LIG Nex1 for the possibility of accelerating the delivery of M-SAM (Cheongung II) surface-to-air systems. Riyadh also allegedly contacted Japan about acquiring American missile interceptors for the Patriot launcher.

They also requested additional interceptor missiles United Arab Emirateswhich recently used a South Korean system to defend against an Iranian attack.

According to “WSJ” Rhinitis and the United Arab Emirates are also currently in talks with Ukrainian arms producers.

“The American defense industry has not increased production capacity sufficiently, despite the increase in demand, which is why US companies may lose potential contracts,” said “WSJ”.

Costly Western systems turn out to be of little value when constantly repelling massive airstrikes conducted by Iran using very cheap drones – such as the Iranian Shahed attack machines, also used by Russia during the war with Ukraine. Tehran is attacking targets in the countries of the Persian Gulf region in connection with the US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran that began on February 28.
