The price of diesel fell for the first time since the start of the war in Iran. What happens to the gasoline?

Diesel fuel reached 9.5 lei/l in Petrom stations on Friday, after previously rising to 10.38 lei/l. Gasoline also fell, now about 60 cents below the month's high.

After Friday's discounts, diesel fell to 9.58 lei/l in Petrom stations, a level that has not been reached since March 20. At the same time, gasoline reached 8.72 lei/l, returning to the values of March 18, according to Profit.ro.

Similar decreases were also seen in OMV premium stations, where diesel is 9.67 lei/l, and gasoline 8.83 lei/l.

At Rompetrol, prices evolved differently: diesel became cheaper by 6 banis, but gasoline went up by 17 banis. The changes come after, on Thursday, the company reduced the price of diesel by 20 banis and that of gasoline by 26 banis.

Thus, on Friday, in Rompetrol stations, standard gasoline costs 9.11 lei/l, and standard diesel 10.2 lei/l. Internationally, oil prices rose 1% on Thursday, but remained below the $100 mark for the second session in a row, amid fluctuations influenced by the fragile ceasefire in the Middle East.

We remind you that the ordinance that provides for the reduction of excise duty on diesel fuel by 30 banis entered into force on Tuesday, April 7, with fuel prices already dropping by up to 36 banis, according to official data published by the Price Monitor.

Analyst Adrian Negrescu explained for “The Truth” that the cheapening of diesel by reducing the excise duty is only temporary and misleading, being influenced by external factors much stronger than internal fiscal decisions.
