Ice trails for transporting tourists will appear on Lake Baikal

In the Irkutsk region, a bill is being prepared that will regulate the entry of wheeled vehicles onto the ice of Lake Baikal. The news agency IrkutskMedia writes about this with reference to TASS and the words of the regional governor Igor Kobzev. It is expected that special trails will be built on the lake leading to popular tourist spots.
The initiative began to be developed after the February tragedy. The 44-year-old driver of a UAZ car, transporting Chinese tourists, fell into a crevice. The car sank along with its passengers. Only one person managed to escape – a 31-year-old man. All the rest – seven tourists, including a child, and the driver died.
Two criminal cases were opened into the incident, including under the article of negligence. It has now been proven that a resident of Khuzhir organized and coordinated the illegal transportation of tourists on the ice of the lake and received his main income from this.
