English football club Leicester City, which plays in England's second division, the Championship, was unsuccessful in its appeal against the deduction of six points awarded for breaching financial rules.
The Foxes, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 and 2024/25 seasons, challenged the decision of the independent commission which imposed this sanction for breaching the rules of profitability and sustainability of the English Football League (EFL) organization for a period of three years until 2024.
The Appeals Committee also rejected the Premier League's claim
“The panel concluded that the club had breached the EFL's profitability and sustainability rules for the period ending with the 2023/24 season. The club challenged this decision on several grounds, including the committee's jurisdiction to recommend a points deduction, as well as the amount of the penalty.
The Appeals Committee rejected these objections. The Appeals Committee also rejected the Premier League's request, which referred to the committee's decision not to increase the sanction for the club for breaching the league's rules on the late submission of annual accounts,” DPA quoted the Premier League statement as saying.
Leicester: “We are focusing on the last games of the season”
The 2016 English champions are currently 22nd in the Championship standings, one point off the bench.
“Now that this matter is closed and with five games to go until the end of the season, everyone at the club is fully focused on the next few games and on influencing the outcome of the season through on-field performances.
We know it has been a difficult time and we thank the fans for their continued support of the team. Our responsibility now is to approach the remaining games with the focus and determination that our situation demands,” Leicester City said in a statement.
