Flavio Cobolli (23 years old, 16 ATP) was defeated in the second round of the Monte Carlo tournament by the Belgian Alexander Blockx (20 years old, 91 ATP), a player coming from the qualifications, 6-3, 6-3. At the end of the game, the Italian had some things to reproach the French Amélie Tourte, the chair referee of the game.
Flavio Cobolli, the Italian who won the 2025 Țiriac Open and who this year decided to skip the competition in Bucharest, was eliminated from the second round in Monte Carlo. He surprisingly lost to qualifier Alexander Blockx 6-3, 6-3. Then, at the end of the game, the Italian took out his nerves on the chair referee, Amélie Tourte.
The 10th seed, the Italian won this year's Acapulco tournament and was hoping to have a very good clay season after losing in the third and second rounds at Indian Wells and Miami respectively.
In the Monte Carlo match, Cobolli's nervousness gradually increased as his game suffered. He was defeated in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, then went on a rampage.
Flavio Cobolli did not shake hands with the chair referee
As he walked towards the net, venting his anger and frustration at the way he had been refereed, the Italian had some harsh words. He calmed down for a moment to congratulate his opponent, then stopped right in front of the referee's chair, still throwing a few choice words at her, then left without shaking her hand. “You're not doing anything. Everyone's yelling and you're not doing anything,” a cried Cobolli. He was visibly agitated by the crowd, which always sided with the lower ranked player.
