What is included in the gas bill? We discuss all fees and components

Many Poles look at the gas bill only through the prism of the final amount. Meanwhile, the invoice contains several different fees that are worth knowing to better control your home budget.
Knowing the details of your gas bill allows you to better plan your expenses and consciously manage your consumption. This makes it easier to avoid unpleasant surprises when the amount due suddenly increases. It is also a chance to compare offers from different sellers and choose the best option.
What is included in the gas bill? We discuss all fees and components
As explained by Rediodom.pl, the gas bill consists of four main items:
- fixed distribution fee (for network readiness),
- variable distribution fee (for actual consumption),
- subscription (for customer service)
- gas fuel fees (for energy consumption).
Each of them has a different function and affects the final amount.

It is worth remembering that the fixed distribution fee is the cost of maintaining and developing the gas network. The recipient pays it regardless of actual consumption. The variable distribution fee, which depends on the amount of gas consumed and includes the delivery of fuel to your home, is different.
A simple conversion factor works here: the greater the consumption, the higher this part of the bill. Importantly, if a gas recipient has reservations about the quality of the gas, he or she may demand a discount if the quality parameters have not been met.
This is what your gas bill consists of. One key element
As Regiodom.pl explains, the third element – the subscription – is a fixed service and billing fee. Only the fourth component of the gas bill, i.e. the gas fuel fee, reflects the actual energy consumption.
The amount from the account goes to two entities: the gas seller (for fuel and subscription) and the distributor (for distribution fees). All rates – apart from the subscription fee – are approved by the Energy Regulatory Office.
Gas bills too high? Maybe the problem is the tariff
When gas bills seem to be too high, it is worth analyzing the price conditions applicable to your current tariff.
Tariffs are approved by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office, and changes are introduced on the basis of energy law provisions. Until June 30, 2024, the maximum price was PLN 200.17/MWh. From July 1, 2024, the price freeze ended.

The gas recipient can adjust the settlement method to his or her needs. There may be a monthly settlement based on actual consumption with a simultaneous change of the tariff group to 12T. Then the recipient independently provides the meter reading, but must still allow the operator's employee to read it so that he can verify the given values.
It is also worth remembering that the amount of the gas bill and its consumption are also influenced by the house itself. The more energy efficient it is and the more efficient the installation, the less gas consumption will be, which in turn will translate into lower gas bills to pay.
