Decembrist's buds appear in late autumn, and the flowers fully open with the arrival of the first cold weather. But the active growth of shoots in this plant begins much earlier – in May.
During this period, the Decembrist noticeably increases in size: its stems lengthen, grow new segments and begin to branch. A simple rule works here: the more healthy shoots you manage to grow during the spring and summer, the more lush and vibrant the flowering will be in December.
Spring feeding of the Decembrist
Experienced gardeners recommend feeding Schlumbergera with magnesium sulfate. This fertilizer perfectly stimulates the growth of new segments, strengthens the root system, helps the plant better absorb phosphorus and nitrogen from the soil, and also prevents yellowing of shoots.
How to prepare and apply fertilizer
Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of magnesium sulfate in 1 liter of warm, settled water. Water Decembrist strictly at the root and only on moist soil.
Alternate the application of fertilizer with regular watering: in the first week you feed with magnesium sulfate, in the second week – just clean water. Maintain this regimen for one month. As a result, the Decembrist will receive a solid foundation for future luxurious flowering.
