The tourist surprise of Greece. A lesser-known destination with spectacular beaches and authentic food at low prices: “A culinary paradise”

A British tourist recently discovered an off-the-beaten-track Greek island where relaxing on quiet beaches meets affordable gastronomy. For the two-day trip, she paid less than £50, including ferry transport from Athens.

It is about the island of Tinos, located near Mykonos. “It was hard to choose between the dozens of Greek islands, but I wanted a destination with sun, free beaches and dinner under £20. This island turned out to be the perfect choice, although no, it's not Mykonos or Santorini”the tourist told the Express publication.

The ferry from Athens reaches the island in about two hours, and the ticket price varies between 20 and 50 pounds, depending on when you book. Upon arrival, visitors discover the old center with cobbled streets, cafes and bookstores, including Antilalos, where coffee and cakes can be served.

Breakfasts on the island are varied and affordable. At Mikros, for example, a full meal costs about 8 pounds per person and includes pancakes, cooked dishes and coffee.

The main beach, Agios Fokas, impresses with fine sand and clear waters. Two beach bars, Agios Fokas Beach Bar and Sagredo Seaside, offer beers from 3 pounds and services adapted to both those looking for a lively atmosphere and those who prefer quiet.

Even in August, the beach remains relatively free, and in the distance you can see the neighboring island of Andros.

In the evening, the island becomes a culinary paradise. Botilia stands out for its seafood dishes and its unique decor, with tables placed on the street and painted floors.

Sardines, feta cheese and grilled halloumi, along with fresh bread, are the recommendations of the house, complemented by the local Nissos beer.

Other popular options are Myrtilo Bistro, where reservations are recommended, and Ostria, with traditional taverns and spectacular sunset views.

Thus, the island proves to be an ideal destination for those looking for the combination of quiet beaches and affordable gastronomy, offering an authentic Greek experience away from the crowds of tourists.
