Emmanuel Macron stressed that “Press a historical responsibility on us” and that is essential “Let's do our best to maintain the possibility of a solution with two states, Israel and Palestine, living next to each other in peace and security ”, According to AFP, quoted by Agerpres.
France's decision comes after the United Kingdom, Australia, Portugal and Canada officially recognized the state of Palestine Sunday, gesture denounced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “Danger” for the existence of Israel.
The US administration also criticized this movement. White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump considers Palestine's recognition “A reward for Hamas” and that he would approach the subject on Tuesday, in his speech at the UN General Assembly to underline that “There are only words, not enough concrete actions.”
What, in fact, the recognition of Palestine means
The President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, has firmly criticized the decision of Western countries – including Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom – to officially recognize the state of Palestine. According to the Israeli leader, such a gesture “Do not bring peace closer,” but, on the contrary, ar “Encourage the forces of darkness.” He also added that this decision does not contribute to the release of Israeli hostages and does not open the way for a resolution of the conflict.
