CBS News writes that Hegseth asked George to leave immediately. According to the TV channel, the head of the Pentagon wants to see in this position a person who will implement the vision of US President Donald Trump and himself in the army.
George was appointed by previous President Joe Biden and was expected to leave in 2027, journalists note. The channel named Hegseth's former aide and current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, General Christopher Laneve, as a possible successor.
According to CBS News, two senior officers were also fired along with George – General David Hodne, who led the Army's Transformation and Training Command, and Maj. Gen. William Green, head of the Chaplain Corps.
