Trump attacks NATO countries for lack of aid. “They need to take courage.”

US President Donald Trump delivered an address to the nation on Wednesday evening local time about the war with Iran. American and European media point out that he put forward several false theses in it.

American scientist from the University of Wrocław, Dr. Karol Szulc, in an interview with PAP, called Trump's speech “an absolute shell”, pointing out that the speech did not include any specific information about the end of the war with Iran, which has been waged for over four weeks with Israel.

– He has no strategy, no idea. It's just a stream of emotions poured out by a person who has no control over them – said the expert. He added that, as in previous statements, “Trump repeated lies that he had already won the war with Iran.”

The NBC News analysis highlighted, among others: remark that the leader was incorrect when he said that the United States imports “almost no oil” through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to data published by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), in 2024 the US imported 0.5 million barrels of crude oil and condensate per day through the Strait of Hormuz. This amounted to 7%. American imports of these raw materials, as well as 2 percent consumption of petroleum fluids. This means that, contrary to Trump's assurances, oil via this route was transported to the United States.

President Trump also stated in his message that the Iranians were “rapidly building up a massive stockpile of conventional ballistic missiles and would soon have missiles that could reach America, Europe and virtually anywhere else on Earth.” According to the analysis of the American Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA-Defense Intelligence Agency), before the attack by the forces of the United States and Israel, which took place on February 28, Iran did not have such military capabilities. According to experts, he would not be in possession of such a weapon for another 10 years.

According to Trump, Iran was “just one step” away from developing nuclear weapons, adding that the United States had destroyed the country's nuclear facilities.

During a speech from the White House, the president once again repeated that the United States brought about regime change in Iran because “all the leaders died.” In his opinion, Iran's new leaders are “less radical and much more reasonable.”

Since the US and Israel launched their campaign against Iran on February 28, many senior Iranian politicians and commanders have been killed, including Supreme Spiritual Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. After his death, Modjtab's son Khamenei took over. His choice has already been called “unacceptable” by Trump.

However, according to the assessments of American intelligence, military analysts, but also politicians from Western countries cited by NBC News, “there is no indication that the authoritarian Iranian government will lose power or that the successors of the murdered leaders will break with the ideology of the Islamic Republic.”

“Iran's new leaders follow the same ideology (as their predecessors – PAP). They are all committed to the principles of the 1979 revolution and will rule with greater brutality, given the lack of legitimacy. They are more afraid of normalization of relations with the US than of conflict with the US,” political analyst Karim Sajadpour from the American think tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said on his X channel.

Trump, speaking about the Iranian regime, said that it “recently killed 45,000 citizens who were protesting in Iran.” The AP agency pointed out that such a high death toll has not been confirmed yet.

The American non-governmental organization Human Rights Activists, working for human rights in Iran, confirmed the death of over 7,000. people taking part in anti-government protests in Iran, which reached their peak in January. As noted, the number of victims may be higher, but due to restrictions, among others. in Internet access, it is difficult to verify this number. The organization estimated the total number of people detained during the demonstrations at over 53,000.

Trump also stated in his speech that “after the last administration (of President Joe Biden – PAP), we took over a dead and mutilated country and (now) made it the best country in the world, without any inflation.”

NBS News and AP said this statement was false because, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released on March 11, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of inflation, increased by 0.3 percent in February. on a monthly basis, i.e. by 2.4 percent. compared to 2025. These data refer to the time before the US-Israeli attacks on Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which triggered a sharp increase in gasoline prices around the world in March. The next BLS report will be released on April 10, but the Federal Reserve Bank's forecast estimates March inflation will be 3.25%. on an annual basis.

Deutsche Welle drew attention to Trump's statement in which he said that the United States was receiving “a record amount of foreign investment exceeding $18 trillion,” which is false information. According to official data posted on the White House website, this value is $10.5 trillion.

The largest partners are the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, each of which has declared investments worth over a trillion dollars. This information is also questionable because the proposed amounts far exceed the size of these countries' economies. The World Bank reported that in 2024, the UAE's PKP amounted to over USD 550 billion, and Qatar's – approximately USD 220 billion.

Moreover, Trump delivered conflicting messages in his speech. He said the U.S.'s “main goals” in the conflict were “almost achieved.” “We will finish this very quickly, we are very close,” he said. At the same time, however, he threatened that the United States would strike Iran “extremely hard in the next two or three weeks”, including an attack on Iranian power plants if no agreement was reached between the parties soon.

The president also did not specify what the specific goal of the war would be, including whether he planned to send ground troops to seize enriched uranium from Iran or limit Iran's ability to control the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for transporting oil and gas.
