Orbis has been the largest hotel company in Central and Eastern Europe for many years. The company was founded in 1920 in Lviv, and its trademark has been known since the 1930s. During the Polish People's Republic, it has become a kind of symbol of luxury and “Windows to the World” for many Poles. Not only did she say with its name hotels such as the Sopot Grand Hotel or Warsaw Victoria, but also conducted tourist activities. In the 1990s, Orbis was privatized, and in 2019 incorporated into Accorinvest structures.

Orbis will operate “as part of a uniform structure”
According to Property News, the Accorinvest hotel group is changing the name to Essendi. For Orbis, this means the end of activity under one of the most recognizable signs in Poland and the transition to a common international brand. Gilles Clavié, president of Essendi, at a press conference, taking place in several European cities, including Paris, Warsaw and Munich, informed about all the changes, as well as the new strategy of the group.

– Orbis, with a rich tradition in the hotel industry, will now operate as part of a uniform structure under the Essendi brand, strengthening its position on key markets and supporting the strategy of sustainable development – said the head of the Polish branch Dominik Sołtysik, quoted by Property News. According to unofficial information, Essendi, however, retains the right to the name Orbis.
The Essendi Group (previously Accorinvest) achieved record financial results in 2024 – EUR 4 billion of revenue and EUR 656 million EBITDA. The concern currently manages 576 hotels in 24 countries under the IBIS, Novotel and Mercure brands.
