Seven-month-old baby girl in stroller shot dead in US gang fight

The seven-month-old girl died after being hit by a stray bullet in Brooklyn, New York, following gunfire between rival gangs, city officials said, cited by Reuters.
Shots were fired Wednesday afternoon on a street in Brooklyn, where, according to the American police, there were several adults, two strollers with babies and many children.
The girl's mother and father ran to a nearby restaurant to take shelter. When they looked into the stroller, they saw that their little girl was covered in blood.
One suspect is in custody, while another is still being sought, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.
“At this time, the shooting is believed to be gang-related and the victim is an unintended target,” Tisch said in a news release.
It is not yet known which group or groups were involved in the incident.
Video footage captured two men on a moped driving in the opposite direction, and one of them pulled out a gun and fired at least two rounds, the police commissioner said.
The suspects drove away, and the moped later crashed into a car, Tisch said.
“A life that had just begun was ended in an instant,” said the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, in a press conference.
New York recorded 688 incidents involving firearms in 2025, down 24% from 2024, according to US police.
