The accusations directed by Poland at Russia regarding the fire in Warsaw are unfounded and are a manifestation of Russophobia – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pieskov said on Monday. The Polish authorities reported that they have evidence of the participation of Russian services in the arson of the shopping center in Warsaw.

“A lot of different accusations at Russia resounded in Poland. This is probably a part of a completely Russophobic, enemy position towards our country,” said Pieskov, quoted by the Interfax agency.

“All these accusations are always completely unfounded and unfounded,” he added.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Poland of “destroying relations” in connection with the decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Krakow and threatened the “adequate answer”.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski announced on Monday that he decided to withdraw its consent to the Consulate of the Russian Federation in Krakow. The decision is related to the evidence of the participation of Russian special services in arson in 2024 the shopping center in Warsaw, at ul. Marywilska.

In addition to the embassy in Warsaw, the Russian Federation until recently had consulates in Poznań, Gdańsk and Krakow in Poland, while Poland – apart from the embassy in Moscow – diplomatic municipalities in Irkutsk, Königsberg and St. Petersburg.

In January, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in St. Petersburg was closed after the withdrawal of Russia's consent to the activities of the Polish institution. It was a retort in connection with the decision of the Polish Foreign Minister to close the Consulate General of Russia in Poznań after finding cases associated with the Russian authorities sabotage in Poland.

Targowa Hall at ul. Marywilska 44 in Warsaw burned down on May 12 last year. There were about 1.4 thousand shops and service outlets. On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that “a fire at Marywilska was the result of arson on behalf of Russian services.” “The actions were coordinated by a person staying in Russia.
