Many gardeners call the lily a “capricious beauty.” For good growth, it needs special conditions, namely: a lot of sun, fresh air without drafts, suitable soil and regular fertilizing. Without this, the lily will not show all its beauty and will bloom weakly, reports “Dacha, vegetable garden and more” (18+).
How to feed a lily before flowering
Monopotassium phosphate is best suited for April feeding. It contains 33% potassium and as much as 50% phosphorus. Phosphorus is especially important for the bulb because it helps it develop and gain strength. And potassium is responsible for bright and large flowers.
For root feeding, take 1 teaspoon of fertilizer and dissolve it in 10 liters of water. Mix well so that there are no grains left at the bottom.
Then add 1/2 teaspoon of magnesium nitrate and stir again. This component helps the lily better absorb nutrients.
How to fertilize correctly
Carefully pour the prepared solution under the root of the flower. Try not to get it on the leaves and stems to avoid leaving burns. For every square meter of land, approximately 4 liters of this fertilizer are needed.
If you have several lilies planted, calculate the required amount of solution in advance. However, there is another way to apply fertilizer. You can pour the solution into a sprayer and spray the leaves and stems on top.
It is best to carry out the procedure in the evening or in cloudy weather. Then the drops of fertilizer will not dry out under the sun and will be well absorbed. After such care, the lily will definitely thank you with large buds and long flowering.
