Moscow denounces that the airstrikes also damaged the Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Tehran. “All because of the military adventure of the USA and Israel”

The Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Tehran was damaged by airstrikes, which caused no casualties, the Russian Embassy in Iran said on Wednesday.

“On April 1, in the morning, there were two air attacks with rockets in the immediate vicinity of the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Tehran. The main building, the accommodation spaces and several technical buildings were damaged. No victims were registered”, the embassy stated in a post on social networks, according to News.ro.

In addition, the diplomatic representation claims, “the Russian nursing home located on the adjacent territory was seriously damaged (among other things, the roof collapsed), where elderly people still live in care. Thank God, there are no victims or injured”, according to a message published on Telegram.

“We note that the Saint Nicholas Cathedral was damaged during Lent and on the eve of one of the main religious holidays – Easter. Due to the military adventure of the USA and Israel, the Orthodox community in Iran is deprived of the opportunity to attend the church”, the embassy says.

“The building of Saint Nicholas Cathedral, designed by our famous compatriot, the architect Nikolai Markov, was damaged. This building is one of the monuments inscribed on the National List of Cultural Heritage of Iran,” the embassy states, adding: “We strongly condemn the ongoing American and Israeli aggression against Iran, which is affecting more and more targets of civil infrastructure and religious and cultural heritage.”

The Russian diplomatic mission in Tehran also released images from the scene, showing pieces of the collapsed ceiling, debris on the floor and broken windows.
