She explained that The snowy winter provided the ticks with a good winter, which threatens a high population size during the peak season. At the end of March, fewer bites were recorded than during the same period last year, but this lull may be deceptive. It is expected that the change from frost to thaw and subsequent warming will create conditions for a mass release of exhausted individuals, which will attack more actively.
“As temperatures fluctuate, ticks become more active and aggressive: when it warms up, they come out and actively search for food; when it gets colder, they do not die, but hide back in the litter (a layer of fallen leaves, grass and other vegetation on the soil surface), continuing to expend energy… When warm weather sets in, a huge number of not just awakened, but exhausted and extremely aggressive individuals come to the surface and attack more actively,” she warned of the danger. Yulia Ermolaeva.
It was previously reported that the first cases of tick bites have already been recorded in Siberia: in the Krasnoyarsk and Altai territories, the Irkutsk region and Khakassia.
