Context
After the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, Irpen, Gostomel, Bucha and other suburbs of Kyiv became a zone of fierce fighting. Russian troops, trying to surround the capital, captured populated areas, destroyed infrastructure and committed massive war crimes: looting, violence, kidnapping and killing of civilians, including children.
On April 2, defense forces liberated the Kyiv region from Russian occupiers, after which the world learned of mass executions and the bodies of hundreds of civilians, especially in Bucha. In the Buchansky district alone, during 33 days of occupation, the Russian Federation committed more than 9 thousand crimes and killed more than 1.4 thousand people, including 37 children, the Office of the President of Ukraine stated.
