In Krasnoyarsk, the Krugovorot eco-center, opened with the support of the RUSAL Sustainable Cities grant competition, received a new site.

Previously, Krugovorot worked in an old building on Dudinskaya. Now he has moved to a new, more spacious and technically equipped premises at Matrosova, 30T. This will expand the areas of work of the center.

RUSAL helped with the relocation, repairs and purchase of equipment as part of the RUSAL Sustainable Cities grant competition. “Cycle” will become a platform for environmental initiatives: it organizes the reception, sorting and processing of recyclable materials, as well as the production of products from recycled materials.

“Circle has been operating for 6 years. It started with my dream about recycling unnecessary clothes, and now it is an eco-center. We are starting the new year of our work in this wonderful new place. His path was not easy and at times it seemed that a miracle would not happen. But we were lucky to meet some wonderful new friends who supported us. Therefore, a new chapter begins in our lives. “Circle” is now not only a collection point for recyclable materials, but also a place for environmental education work. We now have a workshop, a master class area for holding events for schoolchildren and preschoolers, a lecture hall for watching films and holding lectures,” said Anastasia Novikova, head of the Krugovorot environmental center.

Already now, more than 40 types of recyclable materials, including aluminum, can be recycled here. This material is especially valuable because it can be recycled an unlimited number of times without loss of quality. RUSAL is currently testing and has already begun to apply technologies for re-involving used aluminum cans into production.

“Two years ago, RUSAL allocated a grant to the Krugovorot center so that it could find permanent premises and not pay expensive rent. Unfortunately, the search turned out to be very long: some premises were not suitable for the purposes of the center, some could not be transferred to them at a reduced cost. But thanks to the head of the Sverdlovsk region, Liliya Nazmutdinova, the problem was solved, the grant helped renovate the premises, and the guys have already moved,” noted Elena Yuzhakova, director of RUSAL’s regional projects department.

She emphasized that it is very important for the company to be involved in various environmental projects and develop its own. This is not only the greening of production, but also the putting in order of the Krasnoyarsk territories.

“This is “Yenisei Day”, when we clean up the banks of our great river, “Green Wave” – planting trees and shrubs in Krasnoyarsk. “Cycle” is also close to us because among the other fractions that they accept for processing, there is aluminum, which can be endlessly recycled,” noted Elena Yuzhakova.

In addition to accepting recyclable materials, Krugovorot plans to become a point of attraction for eco-activists and young people interested in environmental projects and the development of urban initiatives. To conduct master classes and meetings with city residents, a special methodological classroom was equipped in the center.

RUSAL continues its support of social initiatives through a grant competition. The company implements environmental and volunteer projects through the center for social programs, which was founded 25 years ago by founder Oleg Deripaska.
