Ukrainian forces allegedly attacked a chemical plant in Russia's Samara region on the night of March 30, Russian media channels Telegram reported.

Photos and videos posted on social media reportedly show smoke rising from the area of the KuibishevAzot chemical plant in Toliatti.

The governor of the Samara region, Viaceslav Fedorishcev, reported a drone attack on an “industrial enterprise in Toliatti”, without providing further details on what was hit or the extent of the damage caused.

Fedorishcev also claimed that no casualties were reported during the attack.

The Kyiv Independent could not immediately verify the reports or the claims made by Russian officials. The Ukrainian military has yet to comment on the reported attack.

The plant was previously attacked by Ukrainian forces just days ago when a fire broke out at the nearby KuibyshevAzot and Togliattikauchuk plants on March 21.

The attack on the plant comes just two nights after Ukrainian Flamingo missiles hit the JSC Promsintez explosives manufacturing plant in the nearby city of Ciapaevsk.

In Togliatti, in the Samara region, several explosions were reported in the area of the KuibishevAzot chemical plant, one of the largest companies in the nitrogen industry in Russia. Telegram channel Shot, citing city residents, reported that at least five explosions were heard. For its part, the Ukrainian channel Exilenova+ claims that the installation would have been the direct target of the attack, after it had been hit previously on March 11.

Images and videos shared on social media showed thick plumes of dark gray smoke rising above the industrial area, a sign that more fires may have broken out following the attack.

KuibișhevAzot is a major player in the production of ammonia, urea and ammonium nitrate, used in agriculture, but also of caprolactam – an essential raw material for nylon. At the same time, the company produces sulfuric acid, polyamides and synthetic fibers used in the automotive, textile and electronics industries, operating as an integrated industrial complex, from raw materials to finished products.

Strikes in Lugansk as well

The attacks were not limited to the Samara region, however. Monitoring channels also reported strikes on a metallurgical plant in Alcevsk, in the occupied Lugansk region, as well as on an electrical substation. According to reports, Russian air defense systems would not have intervened effectively.

The night of the attacks: Russia hit Ukraine with more than 400 drones. Ukraine fights back in Belgorod. A civilian was killed

“Locals say they don't even try to shoot them down. The drones fall one after another,” reads a message shared on Telegram.

The Alcevsk plant is involved in the production of armored steel for military vehicles and shell casings, being an integral part of the Russian military-industrial complex. Incidentally, the installation was also targeted by Ukrainian drones on December 6, 2025.

In parallel, Russian authorities reported a massive drone attack in the Rostov region on the morning of March 30. Governor Iuri Sliusari said more than 60 Ukrainian drones were involved in the operation. The city of Taganrog was affected, with several residential buildings catching fire after drone fragments fell on them. One person died and eight others were injured.

Mayor Svetlana Kambulova stated that 12 apartment buildings, 27 houses, a school, a school camp and three industrial enterprises were damaged. Residents have been evacuated, fires have been extinguished, and response teams continue to work in the affected areas.

Another attack targeted the city of Krasnodar

Another attack targeted the city of Krasnodar, where, according to Mayor Evgeni Naumov, a drone crashed into an apartment building in the Prikubanski district. Three people were injured.

The Russian Defense Ministry claims that overnight air defense systems “intercepted and destroyed” 102 Ukrainian drones in several regions, including Belgorod, Kursk, Voronezh, Volgograd and Samara, but also over the Sea of Azov, Krasnodar Territory and annexed Crimea.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian authorities have not officially commented on these attacks.

In the same context, the governor of the Leningrad region, Aleksandr Drozdenko, announced that the Baltic port of Ust-Luga was damaged by a drone attack, without giving further details. In the past week, both Ust-Luga and Primorsk – Russia's main oil export hubs on the Baltic Sea – have been targeted repeatedly.

On March 22, the loading of oil and petroleum products was suspended at both ports following an attack. The next day, in Primorsk, several fuel tanks caught fire. On March 25, a new fire broke out in Ust-Luga, also following a drone attack.

The Novatek company was forced to suspend processing of stable gas condensate and exports of naphtha from its Ust-Luga complex. Sources cited by Reuters indicated that rail infrastructure used to unload oil products was damaged and the oil terminal stopped receiving fuel.

According to industry sources, blocking exports through Ust-Luga could force refineries on the European side of Russia to reduce the pace of processing, amid logistical difficulties.
