Mohamed Salah announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season, and the Egyptian star's future has already become one of the most talked about topics in Europe. The press in Italy comes up with a surprising option: a possible return to AS Roma, the formation for which Salah performed in the period 2015-2017, before the transfer to Anfield.

Sources claim that the group from the Italian capital is seriously considering this move, although the financial situation could be a major obstacle. On 24 March, both the club and the player officially confirmed the parting, with Salah set to be honored for his major contribution at the end of the 2025-26 season when he bids farewell to Anfield.

The announcement made by Gazzetta dello Sport: “Roma is among the teams that Salaha is considering”

Gazzetta dello Sport claim that AS Roma are on Mohamed Salah's shortlist, but the move could be financially complicated. The Egyptian currently earns over €12 million per season, while the Italian club's salary cap is around €4 million.

At the same time, Salah has much more substantial offers from Saudi Arabia and is also wanted in MLS, but he is also considering a return to Rome, even in the short term, given the excellent relationship he has with the club.

Roma are among the teams that Momo (no Salah) is considering for his future. However, the financial profile would not be ideal, given that Salah currently earns over €12 million net per season, around €20 million gross. In addition, Roma's salary cap for next season has been set at a maximum of €4 million net.

At the same time, Salah has already been approached by two clubs in Saudi Arabia, Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadsiah, who are said to be willing to offer him at least the same, if not higher, salary. There is also strong interest from Major League Soccer in the United States, and San Diego is very interested in the player.

However, Saudi Arabia is in a tense area, very close to a conflict in the Middle East, which raises questions for the player. On the other hand, the United States is far from his native Egypt, to which Salah is very attached.

Thus, Momo seems to be considering another option: the possibility of spending a year in Rome, deciding afterwards what the future holds for him. Salah had an excellent spell in the Italian capital, where he enjoyed two very good years both on and off the pitch, and his connection with the club remained strong.

Salah, possible return to “Olimpico”

Mohamed Salah played for AS Roma between 2015 and 2017, during which he recorded 83 matches, 34 goals and 21 assists. His performances in Serie A earned him a move to Liverpool, where he played under Jurgen Klopp and later Arne Slot.

For Liverpool, Salah has amassed 255 goals and 122 assists in 435 games. During this period, he won the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League and was the league's top scorer four times, becoming the highest-ranked African goalscorer in Premier League history.
