The Romanian champions, FCSB, made their debut in the groups of the Betano Romania Cup, after a 3-1 victory away from Gloria Bistrița. The goals of the red-blue team were scored by Denis Alibec (26', from the penalty), Mamadou Thiam (45') and Alexandru Stoian (90'), while Emmanuel Mensah (79') scored for the hosts, also from the penalty spot.
The red-blues dominated the first half and entered the locker room with 2-0, but the hosts had a chance to get back into the match. In overtime, Stoian set the final score and brought peace to the team of Elias Charalambous (45 years old).
Charalambous: “We should have closed the match earlier”
“It's important that we won and scored two goals in the first half. Lack of concentration made us concede, but I'm glad we closed the game.
We weren't scared, we just needed to close the game early.
When you score, you give the opponent a chance to get into the game.”
Charalambous also spoke about the debut of young Andrei Dăncuș (16 years old):
“I'm glad we also won a player today. He played a very good game for his age.”
About Miculescu's injury, the technician specified:
“Miculescu is in the hospital, he left with the ambulance. We'll see tomorrow exactly what his condition is.”
FCSB, two consecutive victories before the matches with U Cluj and Basel
For FCSB, this is the second consecutive success, after the victory with UTA (4-1) in the Superliga. Next comes the trip from Cluj, for the duel with “U”, then the trip from the Europa League, against FC Basel.
On the other side, Gloria Bistrița, who came after a draw with Sepsi (1-1), will receive a visit from Corvinul Hunedoara in the next stage.
