Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the X platform that Russian satellites are taking photos of American military bases in the Middle East and transmitting them to Iran, even though the US is trying to ease sanctions against Moscow.

“On March 24, Russian satellites took photos of the US-British base on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean,” the politician wrote, citing Saturday's report by Ukrainian intelligence. Russian satellites also photographed the international airport and oil infrastructure in the Burgan field in Kuwait, he added.
“On March 25, satellites photographed the Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia, on March 26 – the Saudi Shaybah oil field, the air base in Turkey's Incirlik in Turkey and the Al Udeid air base in Qatar,” he added.
“Who helps whom by lifting sanctions against the aggressor who (…) shares intelligence information used to attack American, Middle Eastern, British and American-British bases?” – he emphasized.
He added that repeated reconnaissance missions mean preparation for a strike. “How can you lift sanctions when Russia acts like this?” – asked the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky noted that it is necessary to maintain pressure on the Kremlin, and lifting sanctions is not a form of pressure.
“It looks strange: sanctions are lifted and the aggressor shares information used to strike targets, also in countries considering easing sanctions or already easing them,” he concluded.
The war between Israel and the US against Iran has been going on since February 28. In retaliation, Tehran attacks American bases and civilian targets in the countries of the region. He also blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for the export of oil and gas from the Persian Gulf countries, which increased the prices of these raw materials on world markets.
In mid-March, the US Ministry of Finance issued a 30-day license allowing the purchase of Russian crude oil and petroleum products located at sea and loaded on tankers before March 12. The head of the ministry, Scott Bessent, described it as a “narrowly tailored” measure that “will not bring significant financial benefits to the Russian government.” (PAP)
