The Prime Minister announced the opening of two border crossings with Belarus during the European Union Cohesion and Border Development Forum in Białystok.

The head of government specified that the opening of the border crossing in Bobrowniki would not involve logistical problems. As he said, the road surface in Kuźnica will be renovated by the end of the year and therefore the border crossing will be open to cars up to 3.5 tons until the works are completed.

– As for Polovtsy, here as long as we have a military camp, among other things. Due to security reasons, we cannot talk about it (the opening, PAP) for now, Tusk pointed out.

Tusk: Opening border crossings – “on a trial basis” and after coordination with the Lithuanians

The Prime Minister had previously asked the relevant ministries to make it possible to open border crossings this week – however, problems on the Lithuanian-Belarusian and Lithuanian-Russian borders were an obstacle.

– I am going to have intensive (…) consultations with the Lithuanians so as not to surprise them. We also need to pursue a coherent policy towards our neighbors, said the head of government. On Monday, the country's authorities announced the closure of land border crossings with Belarus for an indefinite period.

– If we say that these crossings can be open, it is mainly because the border is secured as well as ever before. Thanks to our joint efforts, the Polish-Belarusian border is probably the best-guarded border in Europe, therefore we can afford to take some risks related to opening these crossings, because we assume that the benefits from it are greater than the risks associated with it – explained the Prime Minister.

– Everything indicates that if we also discuss this issue with the Lithuanians and coordinate our actions, we should open these two crossings in November. Let's say: for a test. If it turns out (…) that for some reason (…) it will be necessary to close the border, I will not hesitate for a moment, Tusk said.
