Folk calendar
Savvin, Cart day
On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the martyr Savin of Ermopolis, who lived in Egypt in the 3rd century.
In Rus' it was believed that on Savin (Savvina) it was necessary to devote a day to the cart – inspect it, strengthen the wheels, adjust the shafts. That’s what the people used to say: “Leave the sleigh for Savvin, move the cart.” By this time the sled track was already completely destroyed, it was time to switch to summer transport.
They also said: “Turn it or not, it’s winter, frost is not frost, but spring has already come into its own.” Streams ran to Savvina, even if there was no sun – the weather was so warm outside. It was believed that if it was warm on this day, then the whole spring would be warm.
