A passenger train was sent in the wrong direction from a railway station in Galati. The locomotive engineer realized the error in time

The police in Galaţi opened a criminal case after an InterRegio train traveling on the Galaţi-Suceava route was erroneously directed onto another line of traffic, from the Barboşi Călători station. The locomotive engineer realized that the route was not the established one and signaled the situation, the train being put on the correct route from the station, informs News.ro.
According to the Galati County Police Inspectorate, the police officers from the Galati Regional Transport Police Department – Galati County Transport Police Office reported themselves ex officio, on Saturday, following the checks made regarding the occurrence of a railway incident.
“From the preliminary investigations it emerged that, on March 26, 2026, at around 4:07 p.m., at the CFR Barboşi Călători station, InterRegio train 11078, which was traveling on the Galaţi-Suceava route, would have been mistakenly directed on a different line of traffic than the one provided for in the established itinerary. After covering a distance of approximately 300 meters, the driver the locomotive noticed the inconsistency of the route, stopped the train safely and signaled the situation according to the specific procedures”, the IPJ showed.
The train was later reintroduced on the correct route from the CFR Barboşi Călători station, registering a delay of approximately 40 minutes, after which it continued its movement under normal conditions.
As a result of the incident, there were no casualties or material damage.
The police have opened a criminal case for destruction or false signaling and failure to fulfill the duties of the service or the defective fulfillment of them due to fault, and the investigations will establish the exact causes and circumstances of the incident.
