Several Ukrainian parliamentarians quickly noted on social networks a good thing after the meeting between Trump and Zelenski: The two leaders did not quarrel, as happened at the February meeting in the Oval Office. Their reactions show how low the expectations of many Ukrainians are from today's discussions, notes The New York Times.
“But there are good news: they have not quarreled. It is already good,” the parliamentary Yaroslav Jelezniak wrote on Telegram.
For his part, Oleksii Honcharenko transmitted: “Hello to everyone! At least for now, no quarrel has taken place.”
The American publication records that many Kiev inhabitants have looked at Zelenski's visit to Washington, fearing that Donald Trump could try to press the Ukrainian leader to accept Vladimir Putin's conditions for the end of the war. These include the transfer of the whole Donbas, including the areas still under Ukrainian control.
Trump sent to European leaders, after meeting Putin in Alaska, that he supports a plan by which Ukraine would give up Russia still unoccupied, instead of ceasing fire.
“Most likely, Trump will press Zelenski and Europeans to accept Putin's conditions – to withdraw the troops from Donbas,” said Nyt Avtina Harmash, a 37 -year -old man manager from Kiev.
“Hope is simply for Trump to behave more in their presence,” said Taras Kalyta, a 51 -year -old Kiev resident.
How was the atmosphere in the oval office
The atmosphere in the Oval Office for today's meeting was much better than the explosive scandal that took place in February, the last time President Volodimir Zelenski was in the same room as President Donald Trump, notes CNN.
The Ukrainian side has paid special attention so that the discussions do not degenerate, writes the CNN website. Zelenski came up with a letter to Trump from his wife and praised the message of the US first lady, Melania Trump, addressed to Putin about the children suffering during the war.
After JD Vance Vice President accused of non -recognition during the February meeting, Zeenski spoke the word “thank you four times in the first 10 seconds of his short statement on Monday.
