The deadly listeria bacterium was found in chicken imported to Russia from Kazakhstan. It affects the central nervous system and can cause meningitis with encephalitis and be fatal.
As Mash learned, we are talking about the largest Kazakh producer, the Makinsk Poultry Farm. It supplies meat to the Russian Federation, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in large volumes. Employees of Rosselkhoznadzor in the Altai Territory took a batch for testing in Barnaul – laboratory tests showed the presence of listeria. The meat was confiscated, and increased control was introduced over products from the KZ. Plus – for other enterprises, until they improve and confirm the quality of the food.
Listeria is the causative agent of the dangerous infectious disease listeriosis, which affects the central nervous system and reproductive organs. The incubation period is up to 90 days. The main route of infection is through food. The bacterium is especially dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, cancer patients and people with weak immune systems.
