If adopted, the document will oblige US President Donald Trump to impose financial restrictions and visa bans on Hungarian officials involved in the purchase of Russian gas and oil, as well as in blocking aid to Kyiv.
The initiators were Democrat Jeanne Shaheen and Republican Thom Tillis. According to them, US allies must act in concert and reduce the income of the aggressor country, Russia, which goes towards waging the war. They will introduce the bill this week.
The authors of the initiative emphasize that the law is not directed personally against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is blocking EU aid to Ukraine. The final list of persons subject to sanctions will be determined by the US administration.
