In Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, a 16-year-old girl almost died in a fire due to a faulty extension cord. She was saved by a dog, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

It all happened on January 14 at ten o'clock in the evening. The schoolgirl was left alone in the apartment while her parents were at an event with her younger brother. When the girl went to bed, the extension cord that was plugged into the refrigerator sparked in the kitchen. The apartment began to quickly fill with smoke, the dog smelled the smell and woke up its young mistress by barking. She locked herself in the back room and called her mother. The woman called the firefighters, rushed home and managed to go up to her daughter’s apartment.

“The fire area was 63 square meters. Before the arrival of the fire and rescue units, 22 people, including 8 children, evacuated from the house along flights of stairs on their own. The gas and smoke control service discovered the injured 38-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter. They were poisoned by combustion products and were hospitalized. Unfortunately, the four-legged savior died,” said the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

To avoid such incidents, Emergency Situations Ministry employees urge you to follow safety measures: replace dilapidated electrical wiring; do not connect several electrical appliances to one outlet; if the plug or socket gets hot, turn off the device; purchase a fire detector.
