NATO assures that weapons intended for Ukraine and paid for by Europeans are not redirected to the Middle East

NATO assured on Thursday that all US weapons destined for Ukraine, financed by Kiev's allies through a special NATO program, have been delivered or continue to be delivered to the Ukrainian military.

The reaction comes after the Washington Post newspaper wrote that the Pentagon is analyzing whether to redirect weapons originally intended for Ukraine to the Middle East, as the war waged by Israel and the US against Iran puts pressure on the stocks and supply of some of the most important ammunition of the American army, reports Reuters, according to Agerpres.

“Everything NATO allies and partners have paid for through PURL has been delivered or continues to be delivered to Ukraine,” NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart said, referring to the program called the “Ukraine Priority Needs List.”

After taking office as US president last January, Donald Trump has not approved any new military aid package for Ukraine, i.e. donations, but has continued the delivery of arms and ammunition based on the aid already approved by his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, through an agreement with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, Trump found a way that suits him to continue the military support of Ukraine in the war with Russia, but through which this aid will be borne financially by the Europeans. This is how the PURL initiative appeared, the English acronym for the “List of Priority Needs for Ukraine” mechanism, through which European states buy weapons and ammunition from the US for the Ukrainian army.
