“In the online space, a series of alarmist and completely unfounded information has been circulating recently, claiming that, in the last 48 hours, transport aircraft carrying “800 wounded American soldiers” had landed at the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, and they would be distributed to hospital units in Romania and Europe”, transmit Info Radar.
The Ministry of National Defense categorically denies these claims, stating that the narrative launched in the public space represents an attempt at disinformation.
According to the institution, the activity at the Mihail Kogălniceanu Base is carried out according to current plans, without any medical or logistical emergency of the nature described, being reiterated at the same time the importance of verifying information from official and credible sources.
At the Mihail Kogălniceanu Base there are four American tanker planes, used for aerial refueling of other military aircraft.
They were deployed on Romanian territory after CSAT approved the US request for the temporary deployment of American troops and aircraft, in the context of the crisis in the Middle East.
On Wednesday, the Romanian Parliament approved the CSAT's request for the temporary deployment of some US equipment, at the request of the Pentagon. The CSAT document was classified by the Romanian authorities.
