Dubai was hit by a heavy storm on Thursday night, a day after the latest Iranian fire. Footage captured by locals has gone viral after lightning struck the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, directly.
The dramatic scenes were described by witnesses as “apocalyptic”as the city's skies were furrowed by lightning and torrential rain, according to Express.co.uk
Photos and footage posted online show the moment the lightning strikes the top of the 828-metre tower, being picked up by the building's protection system. The phenomenon occurred in the context of an intense atmospheric front, which brought thunderstorms, electrical discharges and the risk of flooding to several areas of the United Arab Emirates.
Official warnings and traffic chaos
Severe weather began to affect the west of the country as early as Thursday evening, before moving inland and eastward, according to the National Meteorological Center (NCM).
Authorities have issued warnings of unsettled weather, with rain of varying intensity, strong winds, dust and reduced visibility.

Dubai, recently targeted by Iranian attacks
Images of lightning striking the Burj Khalifa circulated amid tensions in the Middle East. Since the beginning of the conflict, Dubai has been repeatedly targeted by missile and drone attacks launched by Iran, including on the airport and some tourist areas.

The latest attack took place on the night of Wednesday into Thursday, when the Emirates' defense systems intercepted ballistic missiles and drones.
The explosions were heard in several areas, being confirmed by the Ministry of Defense.
