The Krasnoyarsk Rospotrebnadzor told how to safely communicate with cats so as not to get infected.
According to experts, most cat diseases exclusively affect the animals themselves. However, some of them, for example, rabies, scabies, toxoplasmosis, ringworm, giardiasis, etc., pose a risk to humans.
To avoid infection, the following measures must be observed. First of all, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling your cat, cleaning its litter box, and especially before eating. It is recommended to use gloves when cleaning the tray and disinfect it regularly.
Vaccinate your pet against rabies and regularly treat it for fleas and helminths. Also, do not allow your cat to lick open wounds, the face, or dishes. Limit free range and contact with stray animals and rodents. In addition, do not allow your pet to drink water from puddles or other questionable sources.
If you are bitten or scratched, immediately wash the wound under running water and soap. If signs of inflammation, suppuration subsequently appear, lymph nodes become enlarged, or your health worsens, consult a doctor immediately.
