It was established that at that time the 24-year-old attacker was living in the apartment of his 26-year-old friend on Voentorg Podsobnoe Khozyaystvo Street in the regional center. When the time came to pay for the stay, the owner asked to give him the money, but the casual conversation escalated into a quarrel, and then into a fight, in which the guest grabbed a knife and stabbed his opponent several times.

The injuries turned out to be fatal – the victim, also a foreigner, died in hospital from stab wounds. And the attacker left Russia.

“The accused tried to evade justice and left for Azerbaijan, where he lived for 4 years. Even at the beginning of the investigation, law enforcement officers found out who was involved in the brutal massacre. But it was revealed that, while living in the house of the murdered man, the attacker introduced himself to those around him by a different name, and was on Russian territory illegally. For 23 long years the case remained unsolved. However, thanks to the planned work to solve crimes of past years, the materials were re-studied, and the culprit was identified,” the prosecutor’s office said.

In February 2026, Krasnoyarsk police found the suspect; he lived in Moscow. During a business trip, police officers detained a foreigner and took him to Krasnoyarsk.

The defendant confessed to everything and is now in custody. The prosecutor's office approved charges against him under Part 1 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the criminal case will be considered by the Sovetsky District Court.
