Ukraine hit a special Russian ship. He didn't even have time to enter service

After a severe attack on a key Russian port on the Baltic Sea near St. Petersburg, the Ukrainian army carried out another successful operation in this region of Russia. This time, the target was the port of Vyborg, where, as we can see in the photos, the military icebreaker Purga managed to hit it.

Interestingly, the Kremlin ship is still under construction. So it didn't even manage to enter service, and it will already have to undergo repairs. The photos also show the ship's structure tilted significantly, which indicates quite serious damage.

One of the newest icebreakers in the Kremlin forces

We associate icebreakers with civilian units, but the Russian forces have a wide range of combat structures of this type. In this respect, Russia is a world leader, leaving far behind, for example, the United States.

Moscow is also constantly investing in this type of units, an example of which is “Purga”. This is a representative of modern combat icebreakers that entered service only a few months ago, in September 2025. These arehuge, over a hundred-meter-long ships operated by a 60-person crew and designed to patrol Russian territorial waters, including in areas with thick ice cover.

The ship is armed with a 76 mm naval gun, heavy machine guns, rapid-firing 30 mm naval guns, and even Kalibr cruise missiles. There is also room on board for the Ka-27 multi-role helicopter, so we are talking about a truly dangerous structure in Moscow's forces.

As far as we know, this is also Ukraine's first attack on a Russian icebreaker during this war.
