Sex offenders can no longer work in schools or hospitals. Law promulgated by President Nicușor Dan

President Nicusor Dan promulgated, on Wednesday, the law that forbids convicted sexual aggressors, registered in the Register of Sexual Aggressors, to work or volunteer in schools, hospitals, care centers, sports centers or in any institution that involves direct contact with children, the elderly or vulnerable people, regardless of whether they are public or private institutions.
“These institutions and public and private entities have the obligation to request the presentation of the certificate of behavioral integrity to the persons with whom they conclude employment relationships, volunteer contracts or other such relationships”, says the draft law, quoted by Agerpres.
In addition, the new law provides that the register will also include information on the place of work of the aggressor, an information that was missing until now, and the persons registered in the Register will be obliged to notify the Police if they conclude a work or volunteer contract, USR showed in a press release, according to News.ro.
“For too long, potential victims of sexual predators have been left to their fate: children, women, people with disabilities, the elderly, as well as other vulnerable people. With this law, we will provide more security in schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions that work with vulnerable people. We can prohibit aggressors from working with them, the police can know where they are and what they are doing,” says Senator Ştefan Pălărie.
The Chamber of Deputies adopted the bill 4 weeks ago.
According to the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in October 2023, more than 65,000 people were registered in the Register of sexual aggressors, established in 2019.
