Former Krasnoyarsk metro designer Oleg Mitvol served his sentence and was released

March 24 11:37

Oleg Mitvol, convicted of theft during the construction of the metro in Krasnoyarsk, was released from a correctional colony in Kolomna, near Moscow. His lawyer Vyacheslav Makarov reported this to TASS.

According to the defense lawyer, the ex-official served his sentence in full; no additional restrictions were imposed on him after his release.

Let us recall that Oleg Mitvol was arrested in 2022 on suspicion of embezzling more than 900 million rubles during the construction of the metro in Krasnoyarsk. The investigation established that the board of directors of Krasnoyarsk Engineering and Construction Survey JSC, headed by him, stole more than 900 million rubles allocated for the construction of the metro.

He did not deny his guilt in this violation of the law, but asked to clarify the amount of damage caused, since the amount indicated in the court decision included taxes and fees paid to the budget, employee salaries, as well as amounts transferred to the subcontractor.

In September 2023, the Zheleznodorozhny District Court of the city sentenced him to 4.5 years in prison according to Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale). In July 2024 the businessman was transferred to IK-6 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Moscow region.

He spent a little less than two years in the colony; he served the rest of his sentence in a pre-trial detention center.
