The PSD consulted and decided the date on which it will officially consult on leaving the government: almost a month from now

In Monday morning's meeting, the PSD leaders set the date for the internal referendum through which party members will give their opinion on leaving the government.
The PSD leadership decided, in a meeting of the National Political Bureau that lasted about an hour, that the internal consultation that Sorin Grindeanu has been talking about since the end of December will take place on April 20, HotNews sources say.
It is an internal referendum, through which party members will be asked if they want PSD to remain in government and if so, in what form – with or without Ilie Bolojan, with or without USR.
However, the questions for this consultation have not yet been determined.
Grindeanu also informs the partners in Brussels
“I will also go to Brussels to show them (ed. European partners) how we are doing. I will show them the pluses and minuses of the coalition and that we will enter into this internal evaluation”, Sorin Grindeanu said on Friday.
This week, on Thursday, the PSD leader will go to Brussels where he will meet with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and with the European Socialists.
Then, when he returns to the country, eight regional meetings will be organized, “a grassroots consultation”, say the social democrats. Finally, the internal referendum that Sorin Grindeanu has been talking about for more than three months will also take place.
The consultation, after months of opposition in the coalition
Sorin Grindeanu has said several times that this consultation will begin with an evaluation of his own ministers from the Bolojan cabinet. However, in the almost 9 months since the Government was installed, almost no decision has been bypassed by tensions between the coalition members.
At first, there were tensions after the USR opposed former president Ion Iliescu being buried with a state funeral. Then, there were also dissatisfactions when the package of measures in the administration or the packages of fiscal measures were discussed.
The PSD was also dissatisfied with the fact that the economic recovery package, proposed last September, was adopted together with the administration reform.
Then came the scandals in the Budget-Finance committee of the Parliament, during the debates for the state budget for 2026, when the meeting was blocked due to the vote on the PSD solidarity package.
Debates on the budget had been blocked by the PSD, which conditioned the vote on the adoption of a “solidarity package” for pensioners and disabled children. The unblocking solution came after the prime minister announced that the necessary funds would be taken from the deferred payment of some rights won in court by magistrates.
“A formula was found by which the proposal related to the social package would be supported by the coalition. We decided to reduce the expenditure component related to the payment of some rights obtained by magistrates through sentences and their postponement for the following years”, declared Bolojan.
PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, declared himself “satisfied” with the fact that the social package was imposed in its entirety.
