Mirabela Grădinaru, Nicușor Dan's partner, invited to the White House by Melania Trump during an international event

An official delegation of the presidential administration will go to Washington DC, from March 24-25, 2026, to the inaugural Summit of a global coalition dedicated to the digital education of children, organized at the initiative of the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, the wife of the American President Donald Trump, according to the Controceni.

The participation of the Romanian delegation takes place at the invitation addressed by the First Lady of the USA, Melania Trump, to Mrs. Mirabela Grădinaru, as part of an international effort to which other First Ladies from several states were also invited, the Presidential Administration announces.

The delegation is made up of Vlad Ionescu, state councilor for foreign policy, Diana Punga, state councilor for relations with civil society, and Mirabela Grădinaru, the life partner of President Nicușor Dan.

The summit, entitled “Building the Future Together”, promotes international cooperation to increase the well-being of children through education, innovation and technology. The initiative aims to provide access to modern tools, including solutions based on artificial intelligence, to support students, teachers and parents, as well as strengthen online safety, according to the Presidential Administration.

Meeting at the White House with the participation of First Ladies from several invited countries

The agenda includes a working session at the US State Department (March 24) and a high-level meeting at the White House (March 25), with the participation of the First Ladies and representatives of the states involved, focused on digital education, the use of technology and the protection of children online.

“Romania's participation in this summit reflects the commitment of the Presidential Administration to support digital education and the development of public policies adapted to the challenges of the online environment,” the Cotroceni press release also states

As part of the visit, the delegation will have a meeting with Lisa Choate, the president of the American Councils for International Education, an organization that runs educational exchange programs with Romania, namely FLEX and FLEX Abroad, as well as professional development initiatives for the public and private sectors.

“Also, the members of the delegation will participate in a round table with Romanian doctors from the USA, specialized in the problem of addiction and related fields, involved in the activity of prestigious medical and research centers. The agenda of the delegation also includes a visit to The Thrive Center for Children, Families, and Communities (Georgetown University), where there will be a meeting with the director Matthew Biel, MD, and his team”, explains Cotroceniul.

Mirabela Grădinaru, Nicușor Dan's life partner for almost 20 years

Mirabela Grădinaru (41 years old), the life partner of President Nicușor Dan (55 years old), was a discreet presence in the public space until the launch of the electoral campaign, when she was constantly by Nicușor Dan's side. The two have been a couple for almost 20 years and have two children.

Originally from Vaslui, Mirabela Grădinaru graduated from the Faculty of Geography at the University of Bucharest, and is currently a manager in an international car company.

Mirabela Gradinaru and Nicușor Dan have two children together, a 9-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, and they live in a rented apartment in sector 5 of Bucharest. They are not married, but during the election campaign the president said they plan to get married, at a time “when there will be peace” in his family.
