The country's authorities reported that a Hercules C-130 plane belonging to the Colombian Air Force crashed near the town of Puerto Leguizamo in Putumayo province, near the border with Peru. A rescue operation is underway on site.
Local media report that there were 110 people on board, including at least 20 of them were saved.

Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez spoke on the matter. He said the plane “suffered a tragic accident while taking off from Puerto Leguizamo.” He added that soldiers of the Colombian security forces were traveling in the machine, BBC quotes. Sanchez did not say how many people died. However, he called the incident “deeply sad for the country.”
