Vasilisa – spring water pointer

On this day, several saints are honored at once – the memory of the Corinthian martyrs and martyrs is celebrated. Among all, the Russian people chose the martyr Vasilisa and dedicated the date to her.

On this day, the owners were busy with spring chores: it was necessary to divert water from the house so that it would not go underground. To do this, they went out into the yard and dug canals. People often went fishing on Vasilisa (Vasilissa): it was believed that if spring streams flow into the hole on the river, then roach is caught well.

There were also signs for the weather. Blue clouds running across the sky predicted warmth and rain. It was believed that the first thunderstorms might occur on this day.

We also saw: “The day is foggy and hazy – there will be fibrous flax.” And some phenomena on this day did not bode well: “Cold and wind at your back – you won’t survive the winter” (that is, the year will be hungry). Be that as it may, spring was already coming inevitably, and the people said: “Vasilisa’s fog eats up the snow.”
