The fall of Harry and Meghan's empire. Even Netflix has had enough

Everything seems to indicate that the fairy tale of the Sussex couple conquering Hollywood is coming to an end. Netflix is already “fed up” with cooperation with Harry and Meghan – according to reports from “Variety”, a magazine that is almost a bible for pop culture. Marriage hardly delivers content suitable only for binge-watching. As it turns out, even the vague prospect of another reality show – perhaps one related to divorce – is not able to keep the streaming giant with the royal couple.

– The Sussexes' pattern of selling the same, only slightly differently packaged, stories about leaving life at the royal court has exhausted Netflix's patience – we read in Variety magazine. The authors of the article claim:

Their partnership may slowly fade away, and with it Meghan and Harry's last resort in the world of show business.

One informant quotes the prevailing mood in the company: “We've had enough”. Viewers are simply tired of them. And we are talking about a platform that attacks almost everything: “Rebel Moon”, the Polish version of “50 Shades of Grey”, i.e. “365 Days” or even “The Electric State”, announced as one of the most expensive films in the history of the platform, and quickly called a “total flop” by critics.

The couple planned to build a media empire during Megxit. After 6 years, it is clear that if even Netflix, with its multi-billion dollar entertainment-based cash flows, cannot promote the Sussex brand, then probably no one can.

Difficult cooperation and falling grades, so the point is over

The magazine makes a number of devastating accusations. The couple allegedly “spoiled the atmosphere” during business meetings, and the poor viewership results of programs such as “With Love, Meghan” raised serious doubts among the platform's management. The fact that she wouldn't allow photos in her own home didn't help her standing either. Their company, Archewell Productions, is also accused of “poor communication” in contacts with Netflix.

There were even voices – strongly denied by both Netflix and the Sussexes' lawyer – that the platform's CEO, Ted Sarandos, is “exhausted by working with the pair.” He allegedly stated that

will not participate in a phone call with Meghan “unless a lawyer is on the line.”

Netflix called the reports “completely inaccurate,” and Michael J. Kump, the Sussexes' lawyer, called them “patently false” in a letter to Variety. He claims that Meghan regularly talks and texts with Sarandon and even visits his home “without the assistance of lawyers.”

However, Variety reveals that Netflix was “irritated” by the couple's decision to give a high-profile interview to Oprah Winfrey shortly after their tumultuous departure from the royal family. The company was about to feel exposed to the wind againwhen Harry released his controversial book, including: about a frostbitten penis, memories “Spare” [polski tytuł “Ten drugi”]the content of which Meghan previously tried to “downplay”. The management team felt that both of these projects undermined the potential of their own documentary made with the couple.

Celebrities don't want to hear about them? Because why?

Despite the success of the “Harry & Meghan” documentary, top talents and directors express serious doubts whenever the question of working with the Sussex couple arises. As a result, several projects ended up in the trash. And although the platform officially assures further involvement, agents and filmmakers are not interested in Archewell Productions' participation in new productions.

There have been numerous – controversial – theses about Meghan's working style. Sources claim that when meeting with partners, she “tends to shout over or interrupt Prince Harry's words, interrupting him mid-sentence.” The couple's lawyer, Michael Kump, counters that these claims “are intended to play into the misogynistic narrative of a wife ruling her husband“.

Another accusation is “weird methods of giving answers” – Meghan allegedly “disappeared” during Zoom calls to show that she felt offended by the words of other participants. The defense claims that this is only due to the fact that the duchess works from home and takes care of small children who distract her.

That's not all. One of the unwritten rules of cooperation is, among others: “not speaking directly to the couple unless they speak first.” It's rather difficult to stick to such rules in film production.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. From the peaks to the depths, or how to destroy a billion-dollar brand

One can be added to the shrinking list of titles they can use (e.g. His/Her Highness was deleted in 2020), but one that they would not want to have. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were considered the biggest losers of 2023 in Hollywood. Is this the official end of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's brand?

The end of the “As Ever” brand and rescue in Australia?

The disclosure of these revelations coincided with the information that Netflix was ending its cooperation with Meghan's lifestyle brand – As Ever. The product line, among which the leading ones were supposed to be: wine, teas, jams and “flower sprinkles”, introduced in April 2025, and the program promoting it appear to have been canceled. Although the Sussexes' spokesman announces “special episodes”, the criticism left no stone unturned in the December Christmas episode. Reviewers accused the production of “laced hypocrisy and a profound lack of self-awareness.”

From the balcony of Buckingham Palace, Meghan attended “VIP events”. She signed a contract to participate in an Australian “exclusive weekend for girls” in Sydney, where she will be the main mascot. For the amount of £1,700 [ok. 8500 zł] VIP guests will be able to sit in the front row during her speech and then pose for a group photo at the table.

However, the event is already controversial – it came to light that the PR agency of the event organizer, Gemma O'Neill, went bankrupt, leaving behind a huge tax debt of over 500,000 Australian dollars. Despite this, Meghan's spokesman confirmed that the Duchess still plans to attend the event at the five-star Coogee Beach hotel.
