After the victory in the first round, Cîrstea will meet Linda Noskova in the second round of the Miami Open. They have met three times before, once in 2024 in Brisbane, when the Czech prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and twice in 2026, when they shared their victories.
Cîrstea won in Dubai, 6-1, 6-4, while Noskova got her revenge in Indian Wells, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4. After qualifying in the second round, the Romanian joked and said that she told her coach that she would like to play with someone else, not just the 21-year-old athlete.
“That's it, I'm trying to get past Noskova and then get another opponent. A tough, complicated match. A player in shape, she made the semifinals at Indian Wells. A player close to the Top 10, quite solid, aggressive. In Dubai I managed to beat her, at Indian Wells I had some chances that I didn't take,” said Cîrstea, quoted by Eurosport.
Noskova is coming off an excellent result at Indian Wells, where she reached the semi-finals. The world number 13 was eliminated 6-3, 6-4 by Aryna Sabalenka (27 years old, 1 WTA), who also won the tournament.
The winner of the duel between Cîrstea and Noskova will meet either Elvina Kalieva (22 years old, 154 WTA) or Elise Mertens (30 years old, 19 WTA) in the third round of the Miami Open.
Romania has three qualified players in the second round of the Miami Openand one of them is Sorana Cîrstea, the best ranked tennis player in our country. In the inaugural round, the 35-year-old athlete beat Shuai Zhang (37 years, 61 WTA) 6-3, 6-4.
