– Since the currently applicable regulations allow for the transfer of confiscated cars to entities other than the tax office, the officers requested the transfer of the car to the Police Headquarters, and the District Prosecutor in Ciechanów supported the application at the stage of execution of the sentence – said the spokeswoman of the Masovian Police.

In October last year, the District Court in Ciechanów decided to hand over the car to the police. The decision that he would go to the Masovian police station was made on December 8.

From the ditch to the road. A spectacular transformation of the Mustang

On Tuesday, the vehicle officially debuted in police colors. It will be used by officers of the Road Traffic Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Radom. The eight-year-old Ford Mustang has a 5.0 V8 engine and a power of 450 HP (331 kW). According to the manufacturer, the car takes less than 5 seconds to reach 100 km/h and its maximum speed is 249 km/h.

Ford Mustang is a sports model produced by the American brand since 1964. The 7th generation of the Mustang is currently available. The version with an 8-cylinder engine has a power of nearly 500 horsepower.

The popularity of this model in the United States was contributed to, among others, by: the 1968 film “Bullitt”, in which a policeman played by Steve McQueen chases his opponents driving a Mustang and escaping in a Dodge Charger.

Over 15,000 cars seized

As informed by the inspector. Kucharska, last year alone, police officers in the Masovian garrison detained 3,547 drivers under the influence of alcohol. Since the introduction of regulations on mandatory confiscation of vehicles (from March 2024) until the end of last year, the police temporarily seized 1,275 vehicles in the area subordinated to the Provincial Police Headquarters in Radom.

In 2025, the police throughout Poland detected a total of 92,532 drivers under the influence of alcohol, which means an increase of 208 cases compared to the previous year. According to the police, a larger number of detainees driving to the so-called double gas results from, among others, from a greater number of sobriety checks carried out by police officers – in 2025, 17,913,462 checks, which means an increase by 1,875,367 compared to 2024. Last year, however, the number of road accidents caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol decreased – in 2025, 1,174 such events were recorded.

The regulations in force from March 14, 2024 provide for mandatory forfeiture of vehicles. According to them, a drunk driver who has at least 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his blood must take into account the loss of his car, regardless of whether he caused a road accident. Car forfeiture is also used when the driver causes a catastrophe, brings an immediate danger of a catastrophe or causes a road accident with a blood alcohol content above 100%. In these cases, the police will temporarily seize the car for a period of up to seven days, the prosecutor will order the property secured, and then the court will order the forfeiture of the vehicle.
