Currently at the 90th Air Force Base “Airman Commander Gheorghe Bănciulescu” five aircraft of this type are parked, used in aerial refueling missions and for military aviation logistics operations.
The first aircraft of the United States of America arrived in Romania two days ago and have already become operational at the air base located near Otopeni, according to official sources.
Initially, three KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft were deployed to Bucharest to carry out logistics missions and in-flight refueling operations.
The arrival of the fifth plane reinforces the temporary presence of US aviation at the 90th Air Force Base.
The deployment of American aircraft takes place after Romanian authorities approved Washington's request to allow the use of Romanian military bases for logistical operations related to the conflict in the Middle East.
The KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft specialize in mid-air refueling of other military aircraft, allowing the range of fighter jets and bombers to be extended during military operations.
