Indigenous northerners complain about mountains of garbage in the tundra

March 17 7:30

Representatives of the indigenous peoples of the North complained about the catastrophic pollution of the tundra. On social networks, they said that waste is found everywhere – in reservoirs, on river banks and around parking lots. Yamal 1 writes about this.

According to reindeer herders, the condition of reindeer reindeer moss, winter pastures for herds, is especially alarming. Over 15 years, waste has increased significantly, especially in the Nadym region. Tundra dwellers admit that in the summer they have to collect “tons of garbage” from others because there is no one else to do it.

Northerners turned to the Department for Indigenous Peoples Affairs with sharp criticism of educational methods. In their opinion, distributing booklets does not work – they are immediately thrown away. Instead, personal conversations and clarification are needed.
