Nylon tights are very capricious. Once you carelessly snag a nail or the edge of a shoe, a fresh pair goes into the trash.
But recently a simple method has appeared on social networks that can extend their life. This life hack is actively discussed by housewives and stylists, assuring that after such treatment, nylon becomes stronger and less prone to the formation of arrows. The method involves cooking and freezing.
Nylon is a synthetic fiber that becomes more elastic and resistant to tearing after heat treatment. Short boiling “shrinks” the fibers, making them denser, and freezing consolidates this effect. As a result, the material becomes noticeably stronger and lasts longer than usual.
How to use
- Pour water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Immerse new tights in boiling water for 3-5 minutes.
- Carefully remove and squeeze lightly without twisting. remember that you need to cook new tights, since the worn ones have already lost their original shape and the effect will be weaker.
- Place slightly damp tights in a clean bag. Place in the freezer for 8–12 hours.
- Let thaw at room temperature and dry.
Freezing fixes the structure of the fibers after thermal exposure and makes the fabric less susceptible to stretching and the appearance of arrows.
After boiling and freezing, tights become more durable, tear less when put on, stretch better, and many women note that the treated pair lasts 2-3 times longer than a regular pair.
Choose tights with a density of 20 DEN or more and do not twist the material. And if the material seems a bit stiff after freezing, just lightly scrunch the tights with your hands and the elasticity will return. If desired, the procedure can be repeated with the purchase of each new pair.
A life hack involving cooking and freezing will extend the life of nylon tights at no extra cost. Moreover, the method takes a minimum of time, and the result is really noticeable. And even the most capricious tights will last much longer.
