Also on Monday, the UN Security Council called on the Taliban to immediately intensify its efforts to fight terrorism. Pakistan accuses the government in Kabul of harboring militants carrying out attacks on Pakistan from their territory. The Taliban has denied supporting such groups.
The Security Council resolution, although it did not mention Pakistan by name, condemned “in the strongest terms all terrorist activities, including terrorist attacks.” Additionally, it extended the UN mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, by three months.
Fighting between the two countries began on February 26, when Afghanistan launched cross-border attacks in response to Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan that Kabul said killed civilians.
