Trump says a former US president told him he regrets not striking Iran when he was in the White House

President Donald Trump said Monday that a former US president had recently told him he regretted not taking action against Iran while he was in the White House, but declined to say which former US head of state he was talking about, CNN notes.
“I talked to a certain president that I like, actually a former president. He said, 'I'd like to do it. I'd like to do it.' But he didn't. I'm doing it,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday.
Only four former US presidents are currently alive: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
“I don't want to put him in an embarrassing situation. It would be very bad for his career, even if he doesn't have a career anymore,” Trump said.
Trump has tried to justify his administration's military actions against Iran, which have baffled and frustrated the “America First” wing of the Republican Party and sent gas prices soaring, arguing, among other things, that Iran has been causing problems for the United States for nearly half a century.
